The Career Of Celebrated Nature Author And Broadcaster Alastair Borthwick

Scotland’s Alastair Borthwick was an acclaimed nature author and broadcaster. Born on February 17, 1913, he started working at a newspaper in Glasgow, Scotland, when he was just 16. Since the Glasgow Weekly Herald only had a staff of five people it meant that he wrote and edited multiple sections of the paper. The part of the paper he was most drawn to was the open-air page. This page introduced him to rock-climbing which quickly became his major hobby.

He wrote about rock-climbing and these articles quickly became his most popular. Alastair Borthwick filled his writing with interesting characters and situations. He inspired many working-class people in Glasgow to also take up this hobby. Later on, he collected his open-air page writing together and published, Always a Little Further. This book was an instant success and is regarded as one of the best nature books to have ever been written.

Alastair Borthwick briefly worked for the Daily Mirror in London but didn’t care for that city so he returned home. This stint did lead to him becoming a radio broadcaster, though. He was so good at this that listeners didn’t know he was reading from a script. When war broke out in Europe, his adventurous spirit led to him joining the 5th Seaforth Highlanders, a battalion in the 51st Highland Division. After the war, he wrote his second book, Sans Peur. This book has also been hailed as a literary classic, covering World War II from the eyes of a regular soldier.

Post-war, Alastair Borthwick signed a contract with the BBC. His first work for them was the Scottish Survey which earned him an OBE. He also became a celebrated television broadcaster who created programs for Grampian TV. He created a 13-part series, Scottish Soldier, which he said was his favorite.

He was married to Anne Borthwick and they had one son, Patrick. After retiring, he spent his time in a small Scottish village. Alastair Borthwick died on September 25, 2003, just three months after his wife passed away.

Philanthropy is not usual these days. In an age where people like to keep to themselves, people like Adam Milstein still exist although rare. Philanthropic requires dedication and more so self-motivation. The feeling of compassion and kindness exists in our human characteristics. A calling is what one would describe the works of Adam Milstein.

Alex Pall, Innovative EDM Tracks Are The Mark Of Excellence

The Chainsmokers are starting to grow, becoming more active on each new record release as vocalists and lyricists. In summer 2016, we heard something new from the Chainsmokers on their single, “Closer.” Instead of famously relying on others for track lyrics and supply vocals, fans got a chance to hear Andrew Taggart sing. The single also featured one of today’s hottest sensations, Halsey. On all previous recordings, the Chainsmokers’ duo of Alex Paul and Taggart stuck to the traditional electronic dance music (EDM) formula. That’s a banging basic beat with a lot of heart pounding tones, intrinsically bound together as club music.

Now, the Chainsmokers are quietly starting to reveal more and more of their personalities and hidden talents such as singing and writing lyrics. It’s not that they were unaware of these talents before, it’s just that producing straight EDM tracks claimed the largest portion of their time and their creative minds. The DJs are still actively involved in EDM, but they’ve become comfortable with doing more than standing in a booth for hours. The two started working together as contemporary DJs after Alex Pall quit his day job. He was working on beats as a side gig. Until he realized that his love for the format consisted of more than a passing interest. He was introduced to Taggart, whom he refers to as, “Drew.” The Chainsmokers were a duo before the pair met. However, Alex Pall was in search of a new partner when his bandmate left.

Fact is, Alex and Drew know how to combine the variances of popular music with what they most want to produce. The Chainsmokers have evolved into something bigger than either of them could have imagined. They work well together and are constantly writing and creating new songs. Alex Pall estimates that they have enough written material to put out recordings for the next two years. That’s how many tracks they’ve already created. But, it’s a matter of ebbing with the flow of radio play and club popularity as to when they’ll release new music.
